Annual Dinner and Prizegiving

The band annual dinner and prizegiving took place on Saturday 5th April 2008 at Foxton locks. The evening was enjoyed by all who attended. Thanks Derek for making the arrangements.

For a number of reasons the presentation of prizes had to be spread out over the next few weeks the recipients are:

The prize to the player who has given the most encouragement to a fellow player was awarded to Steve Alexander (Soprano) for the way he has mentored and been a role model to Jack (Rep.)

The Bandsperson of the Year, voted by members of the band, was awarded to Alison Harding. On presenting the trophy Garry Sleath (MD) commended Alison on the hard work she had put in sitting on the Principal Cornet chair since Kirk left for pastures new.

Most improved player, chosen by Garry Sleath was awarded to Dave Harrold, Euphonium. Garry commented that most improved player was not the sole preserve of the younger members and in awarding Dave the prize he was recognising the hard work and improvement made by one of the more experienced members of the band.

The Attendance Prize was awarded to Bob Fouldes solo horn, who despite being with the band for less than 12 months has been ever present at rehearsals and engagements.

Congratulations to all the prize winners.

Tour to Belgium

Antwerp in Belgium was the base destination over Easter 2008 for four nights / five days including a number of concerts and sightseeing tours not to mention an unplanned trip in to Holland.

Those who went reported good concerts and a very sociable fun packed trip.

Full report and photographs to follow.

Moving On and up

Steve Alexander (Soprano) has decided to take up a new challenge of playing for Ipswich band. We wish Steve every success.

Steve moving on created the opportunity and challenge for Jack Maxwell to move one chair up the line from Rep. to Soprano, early signs are looking very good.
