New MD for The Wigston Band

The Wigston Band Organisation is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoff Wood as MD for the senior band. Geoff began his banding career back in 1973 and has played through the years in many well known Leicestershire Bands including Desford, Hathern and Ratby Bands on cornet and flugel. During this time he has enjoyed many successes including winning Granada Band of the Year three times during the 1980’s. After playing for a number of years under many influential conductors, he decided to take the baton up himself and conducted a number of bands across Leicestershire.

On his new appointment Geoff commented, “I’m very privileged to have been offered the musical directors position with the band and look forward to working with all of them going forward. They have great talent around the stands and a team of dedicated members mentoring the next generation of players, which gives The Wigston Band Organisation solid ground within the brass band movement ”

The band is looking forward to working alongside Geoff, learning from his wealth of experience, enjoying a new repertoire of music and strengthening our position within the second section. Geoff’s debut performance leading the band will be at the Melton Park concert on Sunday 30th June.

Chris’ resignation from The Wigston Band

The Wigston Band Organisation are regretfully announcing the resignation of MD Chris Small due to personal and work reasons. Over the last three years, Chris has taken the band on a wonderful journey with many exciting contests and concerts along the way. Highlights certainly including dancing in the rain at a proms concert in Hinckley and 4 podium contest finishes including a 2nd place at the recent Brass on the Grass contest, Chris’ final outing with the band. The Wigston Band Organisation would like to thank him for all of his hard work and support he has given to our members. We wish him all the best on his well earned break.
